Referring to diagram, cut:

1) 8 diamonds (a) 4 right-facing (b) 4 left-facing
2) 8 diamonds (a) 4 right facing (b) 4 left-facing
3) 8 right triangles
4) 4 small squares
5) 1 large square

Don't forget the seam allowances!

Merry Kite




Every set of Merry Kite instructions you can find on the web uses Nancy Cabot's version, which, because it splits the outer diamonds in half, is a whale of a lot easier to make. The instructions below are for the original Merry Kite, and we include it in case some daredevil seamstress wants to try it.

Merry Kite

First method: Refer ONLY to the red letters. Ignore the shading.

Sew together 1, 2, 3, and 4 assemblies with a-e pieces
Attach the 1, 2, 3, and 4 assemblies to the 5 (center block)

Sew together 6, 7, 8, and 9 assemblies with a-c pieces
Attach the 6, 7, 8, and 9 assemblies to the 1, 2, 3, and 4 assemblies

Second method: Refer to the SHADED pieces:
Sew together just the a and b parts of 1 through 4
Sew together just the a, b, and c parts of 6 through 9
Attach the 1 through 9 assemblies to the block, and add the c, d, and pieces individually.
