Coffee Cup/The Cup & Saucer

This 1935 block from the Kansas City Star also found a home as Coffee Cup in Carrie Hall's quilt-block collection (now in the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas); The Cup & Saucer is from a Star column of 1946.

The cup in the block at left is a little bit shorter and less tapered than the cup in both Hall's and the Star's blocks. We did our best.

Mountain Mist
The Star, in 1934, billed this block as "a pattern to use your bright prints." The design shows a Japanese lantern.

The Workbox

The Work Box Ladies Art Company
#358, 1897

The Work Box
This block is from the Ladies Art Company — No. 358, which means that it was in the company's first illustrated catalog, in 1897.

It could just as easily be called "Toy Box" for a child's quilt.
